HTC Reveals Touch Diamond with TouchFLO 3D
HTC Touch DiamondAlthough specs had been spilled across the Internet weeks before, HTC held its press event today introducing its latest touch-screen phone, Touch Diamond. The new phone runs Windows Mobile with a new version of the touch-screen interface that made the original Touch so popular. They’re calling the next step in finger-friendly Win Mobile interface - TouchFLO 3D.
A few facts about the new phone: Touch Diamond supports both HSDPA and HSUPA 3G at 900 and 2100MHz for next-gen mobile networking speeds. It sports a 2.8-inch VGA display at 640×480 pixels and the new finger-as-stylus, touch-interface has some visual enhancements from the original version of TouchFLO.
At only 11.5 mm thick and weighing in at an anorexic 110 grams the Touch Diamond will slide easily into a shirt pocket. Its battery life provides a not-too-shabby 4 hour talk time and 12.5 hours of standby.
The new Touch Diamond also has other necessary goodies for a handset in this class like Wi-Fi, GPS and a spacious 4GB of built-in storage.
But how cool is the new version of TouchFLO? It’s a nicely polished layer that sits upon Windows Mobile. But that’s all it is, a surface layer, underneath it’s still the same old Windows Mobile. It can easily be bypassed, letting you plumb the depths of the traditional Windows Mobile interface.
Most will appreciate the TouchFLO’s user friendliness compared to the default Win Mobile, it’s better than looking at a Windows desktop on your cell phone. I don’t know about you but when I’m out of the office the last thing I want is to be greeted with another Windows Start button on my cell phone! TouchFLO makes an attractive alternative.
