George Clooney as Michael Clayton disappoints on Blu-ray
It’s one of the best films of the year and won the Oscar as George Clooney correctly predicted, for Best Supporting Actress in Tilda Swinton. The Blu-ray and DVD versions of the film are available now - but don’t expect a big production over this Warner Bros release.
Michael Clayton is a corporate law fixer that takes care of various company’s dirty work. It’s been lauded as one of the best films of the year and had several Oscar nominations. But for one of the top films of the year Warner’s Blu-ray release seemed rushed to production.
The video quality of its 1080P transfer in the VC-1 codec looks fine. The laziness seemed to be the soundtrack. Look for your favorite high resolution audio soundtrack and all you’ll find is a 640 kbps Dolby Digital 5.1.
Looking for special features? All you’ll find on George Clayton are deleted scenes and a director’s commentary. Not even a fancy animated menu system!
If you’re a film purist and only want to see the movie and don’t care for special features this might be fine. But for such a big movie you’d think Warner could have dug a little deeper and at least given us one of the lossless audio codecs for sound.
I definitely recommend the film, but rushing out and buying the Blu-ray disc is only going to encourage Warner to give us more bare bones film releases.
