Xbox Live Marketplace deals in games

Xbox Live is FiveXbox Live is FiveSoon after the party broke up on the Xbox Live fifth anniversary, the Live Marketplace began Xbox game downloads.

Xbox Live was launched on Nov. 15, 2002, and quickly earned its place as the top non-PC online gaming community. With a user base of over 8 million Xbox Live is a top consideration weighing in favor of Xbox360 over its competitors. Live easily dwarfs online gaming offered by both Sony PlayStation3 and Nintendo Wii combined.

Five years in the bank!

Microsoft called it an Xbox Live birthday party. On Nov. 15, 2007, there were prizes, giveaways and exclusive content downloads to mark the occasion. On Dec. 4, a new feature will finally launch at the Marketplace: Complete game downloads.

A software update  distributed through Live on Dec. 4 will give your Xbox360 full game download capabilities. The new feature will kick it off with a list of selected games including Crimson Skies, Psychonauts, Fable and one of the most popular console shooters of all time, Halo.

Each Xbox game will be available on the Live Marketplace for 1200 Microsoft Points —  $15 to the uninitiated.

I find it hard to believe there will be much market for these old games considering newer ones push the envelope of today’s graphics and game-play technology.  Xbox Live Arcade has been quite successful shelling out old classics but those are very old, nostalgic games. As much as I hate to admit it, I have been known to sit down to re-taste a bit of Defender and Gauntlet from time to time.

Oh, the fond memories of playing the arcade classics instead of sitting in Mrs. Abernathy’s calculus class.

Perhaps that’s the nostalgic draw to the Y generation. Maybe they revisit the days when they’d cut classes to play original Halo back in 2002. Can you really play hooky from school to just play games at home? Kids these days are being ripped off.
