Wii Fit, no miracle cure for gamer ass-girth
Nintendo has announced the release date for its hotly anticipated Wii
Wii Fit Fit game. The game that includes a piece of hardware called the Wii Balance Board, it’s like a Wii-mote you can stand on and it’s to be used for some in-game exercises. Using a board with sensors connected to the console gives Wii a new dimension of interactivity. Instead of just flailing an arm around, you’ll be able to flail your whole body.
Wii Balance Board came out in Japan late last year and it sold a million units within a month. The release date for US is May 19, Europeans will get their Balance Boards on April 25.
Despite active games on Wii this small board attached to your video game console isn’t going to be a magic cure for overweight gamers who would rather sit hunched over a computer or gamepad than move their body.
Nintendo Wii designer Miyamoto has even said: "I don’t think Wii Fit’s purpose is to make you fit; what it’s actually aiming to do is make you aware of your body."
The Wii Fit add-on is going to be able to weigh you and measure your movements. It’s an interesting device that might get some people in touch with their body. But don’t believe for a second it’s going to make you fit.
Fitness requires discipline. Wise food choices and most of all - it requires that you move that lumbering wreck you drag out of bed in the morning. Here’s an idea for a Wii and computer gaming peripheral that’ll keep you from quitting the game just when you think you’re getting tired.
