Sony rumors: PlayStation3 price drop and a PS3 white

PS3 varietyA rumor is spreading that a PS3 price drop is coming soon. According to the latest we could see PS3 for $299 as early as January 28.

The possible origin of this rumor comes from a website called Sickdeals.net. The bargain hunter website is credited with predicting the last round of price drops to both PlayStation3 and Xbox 360 just weeks before they were executed.

Sony recently announced a drop in PS3 production costs. It stands to reason the time might be right to trim the price and make the PS3 more competitive for 2008.

But don't hold your breath. It's a little too soon after the last PS3 price drop. Console manufacturer's don't usually drop prices in rapid succession- it tends to alienate recent buyers.

PlayStation3 Cracker Edition

It was recently reported that Sony made an FCC filing for a white PlayStation3. Console manufacturers, particularly Sony, love to change up the look to sell a few more units. Sony recently released the new white PlayStation Portable. So, a matching white PS3 to go with the PSP would give us white on white and baby, that's allright!

However, a Sony of America rep says Sony has no plans to release a white PS3 anytime soon. Sony says that it does many FCC filings just like this every year. He added that they're continually evaluating the market trends and consumer input to determine the appropriate PS3 models for territory.

In other words - PS3 Cracker edition could be coming soon.

If the first PS3 were white and they came out with a black one - I'd have called it PS3 Stout Edition. Just like the new black Philadelphia Flyers and Buffalo Sabers jerseys – they all look like Guiness to me. Or maybe I'm just ready for lunch.

been out in japan almost since launch.... just a different color. the white ipod isn't to match a zune or etc. just different colors. personally i'd like to see product red 360's ps3's and wii's, just for the cause

    You don't need to have a fileplanet subscription anymore - they opened it up to all registered users of fileplanet. Good luck though - I've been downloading it since monday and teh 12 Gig file is still going...Only thing worse than a 12 Gig file coming through at 40k/s is when it gets a "Network Error" and you have to "click to retry" but of course this happens at night and you miss 5 hours of downloading... They say that it sucks anyways, even if you CAN get it to load and run for more than 10 min, the "worse than Vanguard" bugginess makes a crappy game look hopeless...
