Nano, the $2500 Car by Tata Motors
Tata NanoYou can now buy a pair of Nano Tatas for about the cost of breast enlargement surgery. It sports a name to make high school kids giggle (or maybe just me), but Indian manufacturer Tata Motors promises to revolutionize the auto industry with a $2500 car. Panic in Detroit? Nah, Detroit has already weathered the Yugo, I’m sure it can handle this.
The world’s cheapest car was launched in New Delhi today by Tata Motors. It’s a four door hatchback that runs on a 2-cylinder engine located in the rear. The car is built on the cheap and gets an amazing 54 US miles per gallon.
The car is officially called Nano and somewhere Steve Jobs of Apple is already dialing up a team of attorneys.
Chairman of Tata Group, Ratan N. Tata said he wanted to develop a true People’s Car when he saw a family of three precariously balanced on a scooter one day. He feels the new ultra-affordable automobile will be within grasp of many of India’s working poor and will change the face of the auto industry.
Perhaps Apple and Tata can work out a deal to make the Nano iPod compatible, just about everything else is these days.
