MacBook AirPsystar Computers has changed the name of its budget Mac clone from OpenMac to Open Computer. It’s a sign that the Apple legal team has already exerted some pressure on the company.

Don't mess with Steve Jobs $1 a year salary.

Mac clone’s are nothing new, there is community that supports people who want to build PCs that run the Mac OS. Why anyone would want to is another question. Perhaps they do it to get access to certain exclusive Mac software titles. Psystar might be the first company selling Mac clones on the open market outside of Apple’s blessing.

Psystar released it’s Mac clone with a pre-install of OSX 10.5 aka Leopard. The new computer is really just a PC with Mac compatible parts and an EFI emulator. Now you can get your very own poor man’s Mac for a fraction of the cost of an official Apple product. But hurry before Apple legal shuts them down completely.

Apple keeps a short leash on its hardware and operating system by maintaining a tight End User License Agreement. If you think Apple will let this affront slide – consider this: Anyone who bought an iPhone and then had the audacity to install third party programs without Apple’s consent were subject to destructive firmware updates.

iPhone owners who had their iPhones bricked were legit Apple customers! You can only imagine what Apple will do to Psystar.
