HDMI v1.3 receivers: Onkyo TX-SR875
Buying or upgrading your home theater is a mistake without knowing the benefits of HDMI version 1.3. The one-cable solution is your audio/video option for high definition. The new TX-SR875 from Onkyo is one the most popular A/V receivers with HDMI 1.3 for its mix of top shelf performance and reasonable price.
Onkyo TX-SR875Few receivers are capable of decoding the new high resolution audio formats and providing top quality video scaling to 1080P from 480i source material. Onkyo's TX-SR875 is just such a receiver.
It's one of two receivers from Onkyo that sports HQV Reon processors for upscaling standard DVD all the way up to 1080P resolutions for HDTV. Don't make the mistake of thinking that all upscaling DVD players perform the same job. You get what you pay for!
A $50 DVD player is going to give you budget upscaling. Not so long ago HQV processors only appeared in professional grade equipment, far too expensive for the average consumer. And now the job of upscaling DVD video can be performed not from a DVD player but from your receiver.
Tips: If you're in the market for an Onkyo TX-SR875 be sure you get it from an authorized dealer so you can get them to update it to the latest firmware revision. The latest firmware provides extra controls for video processing and will clean up a few bugs.
With seven channels at 140 Watts it provides plenty of power and has earned THX Ultra2 certification. The receiver can internally decode the new lossless, high resolution audio formats when they're piped in through HDMI 1.3. The new high res audio offers tremendous benefits when listening on a quality hi-fi system. Look for soundtracks on your Blu-ray or HD DVD media that includes Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD and DTS-HD Master Audio.
There have been drawbacks reported of the Onkyo 875. One of its most talked about deficiencies is its tremendous heat generation. This unit will require plenty of ventilation and maybe even a dedicated fan to keep it cool. Heat isn't good for a product's longevity and if this is a concern you might want to consider upgrading to Onkyo's next highest receiver the TX-NR905 or going with one of the other receivers that includes HDMI 1.3.

lol this is just a xbox fanboy article, truth is the ps3 is just getting started and the 360 is almost dead. Ps2 will most likely out live the 360 and the xbox fanbabys will be able to say their xbox3 is better than ps3 while ignoring all the obvious signs of microsoft milking money from them and lying constantly.

Yeah I have to agree Xbox live sucks. It is not worth $50 and Sony is starting to eat Microsoft alive this year. Gotta give credit where credit is due, Sony has out manuvered Microsoft on this one!

Well true the PS3 has been brought into this generation in a flaming baptism of high prices and few and limited genre games. But i must say that it has done rather well and the fact that it sell's in japan could tip the global hardware sales in it's favour. Microsoft was gloating last week that 60% of gta4 sales where on the 360 and that would appears a good result at first but considering the 360 has sold 6 million more consoles then sony i would be starting to get worried as PS3 owners are notoriously brand loyal I think the 360's best selling point right now is it's much lower price point not it's live service. People are much more concious of their pockets then the fluency and standard of their multiplayer network. *Please excuse any bad spelling ME just trying to give a nuetral position.

How can Microsoft extend its lead over Sony's ps3 using the xbox 360? PS3 has better technology meaning it has a higher potential of what can be developed which was clearly shown during PS day where they showed a gameplay demonstration of Killzone 2 in pre-alpha mode. I love how everyone hypes up Gears of War 2 graphics when its already been beaten by Killzone 2 at pre-alpha mode. As for gameplay - Gears of War 2 has a clear edge with its cinematic gunfights and chainsaw duels. For the network...Sony keeps delaying Home and I almost feel as if it won't come out until late 2009. Xbox Live is a great network, but can't compare to what you can do on Home. Also staying with the year 2008....great games for the PS3 are coming along. GTA IV started it off for both consoles. Metal Gear Solid 4 and Haze are due out this summer for the PS3 only. Don't expect Ninja Gaiden 2 for the xbox 360 to even compete with those two. Splinter Cell: Conviction hasn't even been talked about by fans of the Splinter Cell series - so don't even expect that to compete. All Microsoft has this year is Gears of War 2 - do they think they can stand strong against its competitors with one great game? And what if it didn't turn out to be a great game, what if it was shit at the end? That would kill them. Luckily Sony has a pack of games coming out just as Microsoft did for 2007 (Halo, Bioshock, Gears of War, & Mass Effect). Also if FFXIII does come out this year or possibly even a demo, xbox 360 would be the one to get an upgrade to possible xbox 720. Not to mention LittleBigPlanet....

Sony should have charged a competatively priced fee for PSN when it lanched the PS3, that way when a popular online game was released they could have made sure they provided the extra servers it would require. The trouble now is that most people who value online gaming and arent blinded by fanboyism would admit that PSN isn't worth paying for in it's current state and if or when Sony realise that the best way to provide a better service is to charge a small fee, they are going to have a problem convincing anybody to change their mind. I have all three current consoles and most of the previous generations too, i love them all for different reasons but i always buy the 360 version of muli-plaform games simply because of Live, even the troubled Dreamcast took online gaming more seriously than Sony did.
